In comparison to other countries in Latin America, Costa Rica is cutting edge when it comes to health. Especially in San Jose there are hospitals that reach a western standard. In regions that don’t have the best infrastructure there might not always be a hospital near you but there will be doctors who often speak English. The doctors in Costa Rica are very well educated and many of them went to med school in the USA. Since Costa Rica is not a very big country, you will be able to reach a hospital quickly, if necessary. Please make sure to have health insurance for Costa Rica.
